A Stitch in Time
Those who quilt follow in a rich
tradition that stretches back to the time of the Egyptian pharaohs.
From quilted body armor to decorative wall hangings, the practice of
quilting creates snapshots of history and illicits memories of social
gatherings that have been the sole domain of women in more traditional
cultures. Quilting is one of those rare art forms that not only allows
for expression of individual preferences and skills, but also lends
itself to practical uses. The very social nature of the art encourages
its continued existence. A Stitch in Time both examines quilts as a
finished product and offers a look at some of the tools and processes
that go into creating a quilt as well. As you visit this exhibit not
only should you enjoy quilts as art, but you also should appreciate
the process of quilting.
