[877] PAUL'S GRAVEYARD

This graveyard is located on the right of the road from Richburg to
Rossville on the crest of a small knoll. The historian, Daniel Green
Stinson, says "more Covenanters are buried here than any place in the
South." The Historic Sites Survey - Chester County prepared by the
Catawba Regional Planning Council, June 1976, locates the cemetery
about 3.75 miles south of Richburg on State Hwy 901 (page 86).

John Bell's tombstone is inscribed:

Mr. JOHN GUTHRIE/Died 17 October 1820/aged 29 years
also in this same grave
Mr. JOHN BELL/Grandfather of Mr. John Guthrie/Died 28 September
1774/aged 77 years

[879] The Charles Town Register documentation of ships arriving in Charles
Town harbor are not readable (see referenced source). John Bell
received 100 acres "At or near the Long Canes" on the Bounty 10/1/1765
(page 125) and received 35 Pounds sometime between 9/29/1765 &
3/25/1766 (Charles Town Treasurer's Records, p.445 from 73/75 Fund for
new Settlers, Drawn to Cash)

These dates, places and events seem to fit Josiah H. Bell's
grandfather, but firm verification is not possible -- there are too
many John Bell's with little additional facts.
